Do any of you have first hand experience of:
a. Long-term ownership of an R90S
b. Ownership of a very late (post 1990?) Airhead?
c. The new-type coil (with the additional earth-wire) for pre-69 bikes from Emerald Island?
d. Any make of electronic ignition for slash 2s
e. Any make of electronic ignition to replace the 'bean can' ignition on post 70 Airheads.
I want to discover if these Airheads, or their after-market accessories, are living up to the hype. Is the R90S still a useable and enjoyable bike, or is it just an investment? Were the later bikes just for nostalgia freaks or could they really provide good and alternative riding compared to the output of other manufacturers (and BMW themselves) in the 90's? Emerald Island had a poor reputation for longevity on their first range of coils, but they've made big claims about the new ones. Does the product live up to their claims of easier starting at slower kick-over speeds? And according to a respected service engineer, electronic ignitions are being thrown in the bin and owners are returning to original equipment - Why?
I hope to cover all these products soon but need as much information as I can. The only people who can definitively answer questions like these are the owners and users.
